Note to self – do NOT mess with Perl…

Well, managed to completely annihilate the webserver last night trying to run some new scripts which required some Perl components to be manually updated. Didn’t exactly go to plan and I ended up causing more trouble than was worth. Every step I took to correct things just seemed to break more libraries + components. Ah well, all fixed now and back up and running.
I do like the prompt under Debian when you try to remove perl-base and it asks you type in something along the lines of “Bugger off, I know what I’m doing!” (or not…). One of the few times shouting at a computer actually works…

Now if you’d been using SUSE 9.1 you could have used the ‘repair’ feature (and perhaps hosed it further…)

Anyway, you’re not registered, you have not support key and it’s not supported anyway! <click>

    ciao, Paul

Yeah yeah, whatever. Even with a support key it would be a non-supported issue, oh, and you didn’t use the official four-years out-of-date SuSE rpm’s? Naughty naughty. No support then, not even a polite email telling me to bugger off…
Does repair even work, or is it like the SuSE 8.1 update feature which takes it upon itself to wipe out your install or bugger it up as much as possible so you can’t use it…? Ah, those were the days. When geeks were geeks and Seb was just a young fool…

The error is always between chair and keyboard. So quit spitting your dummy, Fouldsy, and take it like a man … I’m pretty sure Lee or Marco would be happy to ‘give you it’.

Actually, the repair feature does work – I’ve used it successfully. 🙂 And the packages are up-to-date… if you want ‘bleeding edge’ then install apt4rpm or compile from cvs source, like I usually do … 🙂

    ciao, Paul

the larger a scooter’s engine, the more noise it makes and the stupid the rider looks when you hear it not going anywhere quickly. makes no difference to me. still takes 4.2 years to go from 0-15mph
